Worm Island – The Real Story
I went to boot camp 1980 and spent 8 weeks in the older barracks next to the galley. Everyone from my company commander to RTC Captain used the expression of Worm Island. It's name is simple for those of you who marched over that infamous bridge. There was underneath you a lagoon that ended about half a mile north and the tip end was shaped like a worm’s head along it's entire (Lagoon) body, which formed the shape of a worm. There you have it, the real truth, and nothing but the truth.
